[YTM] 37.0 How, when and where Yeshua the Messiah will return to earth?

The question of how, when, and where Yeshua the Messiah will return to the earth is one of the most discussed and often misunderstood subjects in biblical prophecy. Scripture presents a consistent and vivid picture of the Messiah’s next coming as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, a title emphasized twice in the book of Revelation (Revelation 17:14; 19:16). This event is not symbolic, hidden, or spiritualized—it is the literal return of the resurrected and glorified Messiah to reign over the Kingdom of God on earth. Yet, believers often find differing interpretations that can make the topic confusing. A careful reading of Scripture, however, provides clarity on the nature of His coming.

1. How Yeshua Will Return

The Bible emphasizes repeatedly that the return of Yeshua will be public, visible, powerful, and unmistakable. Revelation 1:7 plainly declares: “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.” This includes even those responsible for His crucifixion, and the whole world will mourn as they witness the arrival of the rightful King. Nothing about His return is secret or hidden.

Yeshua Himself described this event during His earthly ministry in the Olivet Discourse, recorded in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. He likened His coming to lightning that flashes across the sky from east to west—visible, sudden, and impossible to ignore (Matthew 24:27). He further stated that the “sign of the Son of Man” will appear in the heavens, and all nations will see Him coming on the clouds with great power and glory (Matthew 24:30). These descriptions reveal that Messiah’s return will be a global event marked by divine splendor.

His coming will also be accompanied by the sound of a great trumpet (Matthew 24:31), a motif consistent with prophetic imagery throughout Scripture. This heavenly trumpet blast signals the arrival of the King of Kings, making clear that His coming will not be secretive, silent, or symbolic. Instead, it will be an event that shakes the world.

2. When Yeshua Will Return

The timing of Messiah’s return has generated much debate. Will He return before, during, or after the Tribulation? Scripture directly answers this question. Both the Old Testament and the words of Yeshua make clear that His coming occurs after specific heavenly signs and after the Tribulation.

The prophet Joel foretold that the sun would turn dark and the moon into blood before the “great and awesome day of the LORD” (Joel 2:31). Yeshua confirmed this prophecy, stating that immediately after the Tribulation, the sun will be darkened, the moon will fail to give light, stars will fall, and the powers of heaven will be shaken (Matthew 24:29). Only after these cosmic events will the sign of the Son of Man appear, signaling His return. Thus, according to His own words, Yeshua comes after the Tribulation.

One of the first acts Yeshua performs after His return is the inauguration of His earthly rule. Revelation 11:15 declares that the seventh trumpet marks the moment when “the kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ.” This signals the formal beginning of His reign on earth.

Although Scripture gives signs and sequences, Yeshua made it clear that the exact day and hour are known only by the Father (Matthew 24:36). Believers are therefore called not to calculate precise dates, but to remain watchful, discerning, and faithful as the prophetic signs unfold.

3. Where Yeshua Will Return

Scripture also identifies the exact geographical location of Messiah’s return: the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem. Zechariah 14 presents a detailed prophecy describing the events surrounding His arrival. Jerusalem will be surrounded by nations and endure great suffering, but then “the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations” (Zechariah 14:3). In that day, “His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives … and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two” (verse 4). This dramatic geological event marks the physical landing of Messiah on earth.

This prophecy removes any confusion or speculation about supposed appearances of Messiah in secret locations or distant regions of the world. The genuine return of Yeshua will match the biblical description: global visibility, cosmic signs, the trumpet of God, and a dramatic descent upon the Mount of Olives.

4. What Yeshua Will Do When He Returns

While the details of His return are awe-inspiring, the purpose of His coming brings even greater hope. Yeshua returns to establish the long-awaited Kingdom of God on earth. Isaiah foresaw this era as a time when the mountain of the LORD’s house would be exalted and nations would stream to Jerusalem to learn God’s ways (Isaiah 2:2–3). Messiah will judge between nations, end warfare, and usher in an age of worldwide peace. Weapons will be transformed into farming tools, symbolizing the end of conflict and the beginning of prosperity (Isaiah 2:4).

Revelation explains that Messiah will reign for 1,000 years, a period known as the Millennium. His reign will bring healing, justice, restoration, and righteousness. Diseases will be cured, the earth will flourish, and humanity will learn to live under God’s perfect law. Most importantly, people across the world will finally have the opportunity to know God deeply, walk in His ways, and receive forgiveness.

This is the biblical portrait of how, when, and where Yeshua the Messiah will return—and what He will accomplish as the rightful King over all the earth.
