[YTM] 9.0 The Mission of the Messiah

Throughout Scripture, we find clear references that reveal the divine mission of the Messiah—His purpose to redeem, restore, and reign over all creation.

1. The First Promise — The Defeat of Evil

Genesis 3:15

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

Here, God foretold that the Seed of the woman—the Messiah—would crush the serpent’s head, signifying His ultimate victory over sin, Satan, and death.

2. The Reign of God’s Anointed King

Psalm 2:6–9, 12

“Yet have I set my King upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel…
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way… Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”

This passage portrays the Messiah as God’s appointed Son and King, who will rule with authority and bring all nations under His righteous dominion.

3. The Messiah’s Global Mission — A Light to the Nations

The prophets proclaimed that the Messiah’s mission extends beyond Israel to encompass all nations:

  • Micah 4:1–5 foretells a time when nations will come to the mountain of the Lord to learn His ways.
  • Amos 9:12 speaks of the Gentiles seeking the Lord, the God of Israel.
  • Ezekiel 17:23; 31:6 and Daniel 4:9–21 emphasize the inclusion of the Gentiles in God’s redemptive plan.

As Isaiah 49:6 declares:

“I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.”

Thus, just as Israel was chosen to be a light to the nations, the Messiah—Israel’s Head—is appointed to restore the nation and use it as an instrument to bring spiritual and physical blessings to all peoples of the earth.

4. The Kingdom of Peace and Knowledge

Isaiah 11:6–9 describes the peace and harmony of the Messiah’s reign:

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid… and a little child shall lead them…
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”

This vision points to a restored creation under the Messiah’s rule—where righteousness, peace, and divine knowledge fill the earth.

5. The Messiah’s Ultimate Purpose

The primary mission of the Messiah is to turn the hearts of all people back to God and His truth.
His overall mission is to:

  • Save, bringing redemption to mankind;
  • Judge, establishing righteousness and justice;
  • Rule, reigning over man, the nation of Israel, and all nations of the world;
  • Establish, the everlasting Kingdom of God on earth.

In Revelation 21:5, this mission finds its final fulfillment:

“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

Conclusion

From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture unveils the same divine narrative:
The Messiah, the Son of God, is the Redeemer, Judge, and King who will restore creation, gather all nations to Himself, and establish God’s everlasting Kingdom of peace and righteousness on the earth.
