[CYM] 32.0 Seek First the Kingdom of God

Yeshua’ command to “seek first the kingdom of God” is central to His teaching on discipleship, priorities, and trust in God’s provision. The key passage comes from the Sermon on the Mount.

In Matthew 6:33, Yeshua says:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

This command follows a warning against anxiety over food, drink, and clothing (vv. 25–32). Instead of being consumed with material concerns, Yeshua calls His followers to prioritize God’s reign and His way of life. Seeking the kingdom means pursuing God’s will, justice, and presence, making them the foundation of one’s life and decisions.

In Luke 12:31, a parallel passage, Yeshua says:

But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Again, the context is trusting in God’s care and focusing on eternal priorities rather than temporary needs. He continues in Luke 12:32 with reassurance:

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

While Mark and John do not repeat the exact phrase, the concept is woven throughout. In John 6:27, Yeshua urges:

Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

This reinforces the call to pursue eternal, spiritual realities above all. Together, these teachings urge believers to align their hearts and lives with God’s rule—making Him their first and highest priority.
