[CYM] 31.0 Do Not Worry

Yeshua repeatedly commands His followers not to be anxious about their material needs, calling them instead to trust in God’s care and provision.

The clearest teaching comes from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6:25–34, where Yeshua says:

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

He emphasizes that worry cannot add a single hour to life (v. 27), and instead encourages seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness first, with the assurance that “all these things will be given to you as well” (v. 33). The command is not to ignore needs, but to replace anxiety with faith, trusting that God knows and cares for His children.

In Luke 12:22–31, Yeshua gives a nearly identical teaching, reinforcing the message:

Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.… your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

This version also includes the comforting phrase, Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom (Luke 12:32), emphasizing the tender care of God.

While Mark and John do not include extended teachings on worry, their portrayal of Yeshua shows Him calling people to believe, trust, and rest in God’s presence and power (e.g., John 14:1, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me). Across the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Yeshua commands a life of faith over fear, inviting His followers to walk in peaceful dependence on the Father.
