[CYM] 18.0 Do Not Sin Anymore

Yeshua’s command to sin no more reflects His call to repentance, transformation, and holy living. While He offers grace and forgiveness freely, He also expects a changed life marked by obedience and moral renewal.

In John, the command is stated most explicitly. After forgiving the woman caught in adultery, Yeshua tells her, neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more (John 8:11). He does not excuse her sin but offers mercy followed by a clear call to transformation. Similarly, after healing a man at the pool of Bethesda, Yeshua later warns him, behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee (John 5:14), connecting physical healing with spiritual responsibility.

In Matthew, Yeshua calls for deep, internal righteousness. He teaches in the Sermon on the Mount:

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell (Matthew 5:29–30).

This hyperbolic language stresses the seriousness of sin and the urgency of repentance.

Mark and Luke emphasize repentance as the doorway to forgiveness and new life. Yeshua proclaims, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15) and tells sinners to turn from their ways. In Luke 5:32 Yeshua says, I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Across the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Yeshua forgives sinners with compassion but also commands them to turn from sin, embrace righteousness, and live in alignment with God’s will—evidence of true discipleship and spiritual renewal.
