Yeshua’s mission did not end with His resurrection; He commissioned His followers to go, preach the gospel, and make disciples of all nations. This calling appears throughout the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and forms the foundation of Messiah follower outreach.
In Matthew, Yeshua gives the clearest expression in the Great Commission:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:19–20)
This command is both global and instructional—making disciples involves conversion, community, and obedience to His teaching.
Mark echoes this with urgency: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). This universal call focuses on proclamation and faith response.
In Luke, Yeshua explains His mission will continue through His followers: repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem (Luke 24:47). He also promises, ye are witnesses of these things (Luke 24:48), emphasizing their role in spreading the message.
John offers a relational version: peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you (John 20:21). This reflects the continuation of Yeshua’s mission through His disciples, now empowered by the Holy Spirit. In John 20:22 it is recorded, when Yeshua had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.
Across books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Yeshua commands His followers to go into the world—boldly preaching, baptizing, teaching, and multiplying disciples—carrying forward His message of salvation and kingdom life.
